I taught as a public school teacher in Saskatchewan, Canada for nearly a decade. Attending the University of Saskatchewan, I earned my B. Sc. in Mathematics in 2012, my B.Ed. in Secondary Education in 2014 and my M. Ed. (thesis) in Educational Technology and Design in 2021. I worked at the Canadian Light Source during my university education in their educational outreach department, conducting tours for students and the public, as well as creating digital resources for their website. During my career, I taught a wide range of science and math courses with a focus on secondary math and science, but also some middle years. I taught in the classroom and online (both synchronous broadcasts and asynchronously) starting in 2014 and developed many digital resources for the Sun West DLC (now Sask DLC). In 2022, I shifted positions to work for Saskatchewan Polytechnic as an Online Curriculum Developer (which is kind of a hybrid between an instructional designer, a front-end developer, and a project manager) to begin working on projects to improve online educational opportunities within the trades. The major change for me here has been that instead of working directly with the students, I now spend more time working with the instructors (or Subject Matter Experts/SME’s, if you prefer).
I have taught courses in mathematics education at the University of Saskatchewan (ECUR 163 – Mathematical Content Knowledge for Teachers) and the University of Winnipeg (EDUC 4732 – Middle Years Mathematics Instruction, Curriculum and Assessment for Senior Mathematics Teachers) starting in 2022, and courses in the evening program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic (Chemistry 30).
My academic interests lie in the areas of math, technology, and science education, cognitive and non-cognitive skills, teacher education and development, technological competence and literacy, instructional design, online learning and assessment, curriculum design and development, computational thinking, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship education, and the many intersections between them.
